According to a national daily, 3,700 PHDs holders, 50,000 graduates, 28,000 PGs have applied for 62 posts of messengers in UP police--the position that requires minimum eligibility of Class V. The selection for the job requires just a self-declaration that the candidate knows how to ride a bicycle. However, recognizing a large pool of over-qualified applicants, the department has now agreed to conduct a selection test for the posts that have been lying vacant for last 12 years.
According to various reports, the latest data shows that the situation is declining. According to the ILO report number of jobless in the country will increase to 18.3 million in 2018 and 18.9 million in 2019. According to an estimate, around 17 million people enter the workforce every year, and only about 5.5 million jobs are being generated. However, recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejected the claims of lack of jobs in the country and mentioned more than lack of jobs the issue is lack of data of jobs. He highlighted that the traditional parameters of measuring positions are not up to the mark.
The BJP government came up with various schemes to boost the job sectors such as Make in India, Mudra Loan Scheme, Swach Bharat, Digital India, Skill India and many others. The objective of all these schemes was to create jobs either directly or indirectly and to boost the employment in India. However, the country is still witnessing one of the significant job crisis ever.
Recently there were reports that over two crore youths applied for nearly 1 lakh jobs in Indian Railways, while over two lakh candidates applied for 1,100 constable jobs in Mumbai Police earlier this year. The candidates included doctors, lawyers, and engineers. Similarly, in Rajasthan, 129 engineers, 23 lawyers, one chartered accountant and 393 postgraduates were interviewed for jobs of peons.
