Rs 450, that’s what Sanjay Dutt earned during 5-year jail term

Earning crores from acting in movies to earning 50 paise for making paper bags at prison – Sanjay Dutt did not stop earning even for a day! His release from Yerawada prison on Thursday has had reports speculating how much he earned during his serving of the sentence. According to some reports, he actually earned Rs 38,000 as salary over his 5-year term but will be leaving the jail with Rs 450 since the actor has spent the most on daily use items in prison.

As a semi-skilled worker, Dutt made paper bags during his imprisonment and received a daily wage of Rs 50. A report in The Times of India says that Dutt’s salary was calculated after excluding 256 days of leave on parole and furlough granted by the Pune Divisional commissioner and Deputy Inspector General (Wester Region) of the prisons department.

Dutt was apparently confined to a high security cell for safety reasons and was also a RJ on the prison’s FM channel.

The 56-year-old celebrity prisoner has been released after serving the remainder of his five-year sentence for possession of illegal arms in the 12 March, 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case. His first stop after landing in Mumbai was at Siddhivinayak Temple, and later at his mother’s grave. He was received by his wife Maanyata. He was granted an early release, almost eight months before, owing to his good behaviour in the jail.
