BSE Ltd has appointed industry expert Sundararaman Ramamurthy as the Managing Director and chief executive officer (CEO).He will assume charge from January 4. His appointment to the post is subject to the consent of shareholders. The post was lying vacant since July last year after then MD and CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan left the position to join the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

With close to two decades of experience at NSE from 1995 to 2014 in various capacities, Ramamurthy was responsible for the significant transformation of the Indian capital markets for over two decades.

Earlier in November 2022, BSE got consent from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to appoint Ramamurthy as MD and CEO of the exchange. The exchange will seek approval from the shareholders through a postal ballot on January 16.

The newly appointed MD worked with the India arm of Bank of America Corp as the chief operating officer.

Before joining NSE in 1995, Ramamurthy also worked at the Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI).
