VinFast, the Vietnam-based electric car startup, has appointed Pham Sanh Chau as its CEO for the Indian market. Chau, a Vietnamese politician, educator, and diplomat, brings more than two decades of experience, having served as Vietnam's ambassador to India, Nepal, and Bhutan from 2018 to 2022.

VinFast, a part of the Vin Group, is currently finalising its plans for entering the Indian market and is set to kick off its operations with two imported electric models in 2024. Simultaneously, discussions are underway for establishing a manufacturing plant in India, marking the company as the first exclusive electric vehicle entrant into the Indian automotive landscape.

As part of its strategic moves in India, VinFast has also enlisted the expertise of Ashwin Patil, the former sales head at Kia India, who will serve as the vice president and director for the company's operations in India. The official announcement regarding the leadership team, along with details about model launches and the sales network, is anticipated by the end of November.
