Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is reportedly gearing up to launch a commercial version of its artificial intelligence (AI) model to enter the competition against OpenAI's ChatGPT, backed by Microsoft, and Google's AI experiment Bard in the race to advance generative AI.

The company intends to leverage a new software powered by large language models (LLMs) capable of generating text, images, and code. While Meta had previously released its own language model, LLaMA, exclusively to researchers and academics, the forthcoming version is expected to have broader accessibility and customization options.

Meta has expressed its commitment to making its LLMs "open-source," indicating that details about the new model will be publicly available.

According to Yann LeCun, Vice President and Chief AI Scientist at Meta, the AI landscape is poised for a notable transformation in the coming months or even weeks as open-source platforms attain the same level of proficiency as closed-source counterparts.

This indicates a growing trend toward openness in the field of AI development.

Moreover, Meta's Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, along with other executives, have alluded to their plans of developing several AI chatbots designed for individuals, advertisers, and businesses to be integrated into Meta's platforms, including Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook. These chatbots will leverage the power of Meta's large language models (LLMs).

In a parallel development, tech billionaire Elon Musk has initiated the launch of xAI, a new AI company focused on unraveling the fundamental nature of the universe.

The team at xAI is led by Musk himself and comprises individuals who bring expertise from renowned AI organizations like OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and Google's DeepMind.
