B-Schools should focus on under-managed sectors

With the increase in number of IIMs and IITs, efforts are being made to improve the qualitative aspect of the institutes. Good students, good, committed faculty; and a management that sees itself as a part of transformation to take people with hardly any experience and mould them into good managers are a few factors that will improve the management education scenario in India. With competition from foreign institutes, IIMs are now seeking more autonomy from the government and have plans to market their brand globally and admit foreign students.
Management institutes should not only aim at producing investment bankers for foreign companies or management personnel for multinational companies but at the same time also look at under-managed sectors like health, education, physical infrastructure or agriculture. The likes of IIMs and other management institutes must address this concern.
