70% women in Maharashtra are not in the labor force

In an analysis conducted by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, 70% of women in Maharashtra are not part of the labor force against 23% of men. The study also finds out that only 1% of Maharashtra’s labor force are employers. A significant majority of women in Maharashtra who are not part of the labor force are employed in housework.
