Srinivas Murthy quits Snapdeal, set to be an entrepreneur

The entrepreneur bug has rubbed off on Srinivas Murthy. At least that’s what his reason was when he put in his papers at Snapdeal as the VP-marketing. Joined the e-commerce portal in April 2015, Murthy is the second senior executive to leave the company within a week. Last week, Ranjan Kant Head of Strategy quit to join the apparel retailer Jabong.

"The entrepreneurial drive has rubbed off onto me. I'm now moving on to become an entrepreneur myself," Murthy told PTI. Murthy would be announcing his venture in the next few months. Murthy did not disclose details of his new venture. Srinivas Murthy is an electrical engineer from Vivekanand Engineering College, Mumbai and has done his MBA from IIM, Calcutta. Prior to Snapdeal, he worked as Regional Marketing Director – Africa, for GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare. Before that, he worked at Coca-cola in several roles.

Co-founder and CEO of Snapdeal Kunal Bahl said, “Srini has decided to begin an exciting new journey as an entrepreneur, and while he will surely be missed, I am delighted to see that he is carrying forward the Snapdeal spirit of entrepreneurship.” There is no clarity yet on who would fill the position.

In the last one year, Snapdeal has been appointing top leaders in various positions. Recently, Snapdeal hired Anand Chandrasekaran, who was previously working as Chief Product Officer at Bharti Airtel. The company also appointed Gaurav Gupta, formerly the India Head of Bay area startup Scalearc and Bhuvan Gupta, ex-CTO of BSB Portal in the past one year.
