World Mental Health Day: Almost 50% employees faced depression, emotional or anxiety-related symptoms, says ekincare

Health has mostly been a secondary priority in the workplace in India and today, the industry is grappling with mental health issues in its employee base. Almost 50 per cent of employees faced either depression, emotional or anxiety-related symptoms at the workplace, according to a new study by ekincare, an AI-integrated, health and well-being platform.

Mental health issues plaguing corporate India

The most common mental health issues afflicting corporate India are depression, emotional turmoil, insomnia and anxiety. Other than these, the data also revealed other alarming issues, such as hypertension, diabetes and high-cholesterol spiking in employees. In fact, five in 10 male employees are more likely to have chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and high blood cholesterol.

Are employees aware of resources available for mental health issues?

The majority of the workforce in organisations are not fully aware of the existing resources available to tackle signs such as depression, irritability, insomnia or anxiety during the initial stages. Additionally, the study also identified that employees who are aware of the existing resources are not availing the sponsored benefits.

The insight is based on ekincare’s database of over 2 million employees on its platform leveraging health and well-being benefits sponsored by corporates of all sizes and gathered during the last year.
