Vedanta appoints David Reed as CEO of semiconductor business

David, a seasoned veteran with 35 years in the semiconductor industry, has a wealth of international experience, having worked in various countries such as Germany, Japan, Singapore, the U.S., and beyond.
Vedanta appoints David Reed as CEO of semiconductor business

Vedanta Group announced the appointment of David Reed as the Chief Executive Officer of its semiconductor business. He will be responsible for setting up a state-of-the-art semiconductor fab unit and semiconductor assembling and testing unit.

A 35-year veteran in the semiconductor industry, David’s extensive international experience span several geographies such as Germany, Japan, Singapore, the U.S., and other places.

Prior to this, David served as executive vice president and general manager of global operations at NXP Semiconductors. He received his undergraduate degree from Austin College, an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University, and an MBA from the University of Dallas.

His expertise and experience will be an asset as we embark upon this critical journey with Foxconn to help create a sustainable domestic electronic manufacturing ecosystem in India," said Anil Agarwal, Chairman, of Vedanta.

Speaking on his appointment, David Reed said, “This venture is a watershed development for the global semiconductor industry, and I am excited to be part of it."

In September 2022, Vedanta signed an MoU with the Gujarat government to set up India's first semiconductor fab unit, a display fab unit, and a semiconductor assembling and testing unit in the state.

Vedanta has recently signed MoUs with 30 Japanese companies for the development of India's semiconductor and display glass manufacturing ecosystem. 

Vedanta Group is a conglomerate that operates in natural resources and technology. Their portfolio encompasses production of oil and gas, zinc, lead, silver, copper, iron ore, steel, nickel, aluminium, power, renewable energy, display glass, and they are now branching into the semiconductors industry.
