Happy faces: Woman employees in PSUs show the way

According to a study by key industry body, Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) women, working in private sector enterprises, like BPO and KPO are less satisfied as compared to their counterparts in public sector undertakings (PSUs). However, the woman employees in BPO/KPO sector are not alone in their despair as a large number of professionals engaged in hospitality, media, entertainment, IT and agro-based industries have also pledged their sheer dissatisfaction about personal growth and development. While women employed in PSUs have scored a job-satisfaction-level of 7 on the scale of 10, their peers in BPOs and KPOs have averaged 4 on the same scale as they experience zero flexibility in work timings, lesser alignment with the decision making process and massive pressure to achieve targets. Out of the 773 working women participated in the survey, majority of participants preferred PSUs sectors like, power, banking and petroleum as they offered reasonably good annul income, convenient working hours and job security.
