IT industry hires more women than men during campus recruitment

The Indian IT industry is taking quantum jumps in hiring women. According to reports IBM India has this year hired more women than men during its campus recruitment. Of the overall campus recruitment done by IBM India till June this year, 52 percent were women. And it is a quantum leap from the 38 percent in 2011 and 32 percent in 2010. The focus on women is also evident in other companies in India that have traditionally taken the issue of bringing diversity in their companies seriously. Of the 265 engineers that SAP Labs India hired from colleges this year, 42 percent are women. For Cisco India, the figure is 22 percent this year. It seems the IT industry is paying heed to the numerous studies that show that increasing gender equality enhances productivity and economic growth.
