A radical concept initiated in the organization is Intuit TV, which is a webcast technology to reach employees at their workstations irrespective of their locations. High quality video broadcasts enable all employees to see each other and communicate amongst themselves. Employee participation has increased since the launch of Intuit TV. Employees can also ask questions in real time or can submit them in advance and listen to the replay later to hear the answers.
The company has another interesting option for employees called Video Central, which is a video library where video broadcasts can be stored, searched and viewed. Any video broadcast can be recorded and replayed just after hours of its original airing.
Their internal idea hub is called Brainstorm. This is an outlet for employee ideas where new ideas are discussed, teams are built, requirements are managed, notes are captured and documents are shared. Innovation and Invention are given high importance at Intuit Technologies. The company’s Patent Reward Program distinguishes inventors and innovators through each step and significant contributions receive the Innovation Award.
Idea Jams is another concept which is received really well by the employees. Employees are encouraged to spend up to 10% of their time to fix problems, discover new tools and learn from colleagues. An Idea Jam has simple rules. Employees come up with an idea as a team or single act. Either the idea is prepared ahead of time and explained in a presentation or worked at the event as a ‘one day sprint’. At the end of the Idea Jam, a panel of executive judges determines the winners.
