Three key takeaways from James Taylor's workshop on creativity

Creativity may be the ultimate moonshot for artificial intelligence. Already AI has helped write pop ballads, mimicked the styles of great painters, and informed creative decisions in filmmaking. Experts wonder, however, how far AI can or should go in the creative process. In order to maximize creative behavior and innovation, humans and AI need to collaborate in a manner that will leverage the strengths of both.

James Taylor, Business Creativity, Innovation and Artificial Intelligence Expert conducted a workshop on 'Creativity for Business Impact.' for the new world of work during an exclusive workshop at the TechHR Conference 2019 held in India.

He started his master class by a famous quote by Thomas Edison, "Genius is  one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration."

Unlock your creative potential

Undoubtedly creativity is the most prominent human resource of all. Without creativity, it is hard to grow as a person, and life will become repetitive. There is a tendency that people do not attempt to unleash their creative side because of time constraints and also the pressure of being productive.

Many people fear that they may not have what it takes when it comes to creativity. But creativity is essential for success in any business. Maintaining the status quo only leads to mediocrity.

Taylor mentioned that one has to inspire oneself and create a habit of getting uncomfortable, and this will help them to see their creative sides.

Develop creativity in your team

The statement that creativity leads to productivity is true. The more creative its people, an organization has the chances of achieving success goes high. A creative team has the ability to navigate through problems and find every possible way to come to a conclusion. The creativity expert believes that encouraging people to voice their ideas and opinions will enhance creativity in the team. When they feel comfortable sharing their ideas, the chances are high that they will have more and good output.

Build a creative culture

Companies need to develop a creative culture through collaboration. Occasionally it's essential to overlook the job titles and competencies and be free to share your thoughts all while knowing that your opinion is valued. Communication and creativity thrive together. Successful collaboration requires open and honest communication, which can be difficult to achieve with respect to professional hierarchy.

Taylor also mentioned that apart from all these three things, there is one essential factor that requires to unlock the creative potential, and that is providing the specific feedback at the right time.
