The strength of Charlie Middleton is in translating government and organisational agenda and strategy into concrete operational goals and objectives. This makes him perfect for his current role as Chief Human Resources Officer for Geoscience Australia, a public sector geoscience organisation and trusted advisor when it comes to geology and geography.

Geoscience Australia spearheads projects and innovations that aim to discover more things about the unique landscape of Australia and how it affects the people.

Charlie joined the organisation in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, as HR manager for policy and operations, which was challenging because of the COVID-19 border restrictions enforced at that time.

The next two years saw his quick ascent to leadership within Geoscience Australia as he became HR Director in July 2021, just a year after he joined the organisation. By April of this year, he rose to become CHRO.

Charlie leads his team in designing, developing, and implementing organisational HR programs, initiatives, plans and strategies to attract, develop, mobilise and retain people to deliver on Geoscience Australia’s overall strategic plan dubbed Strategy 2028.

While Charlie’s job sounds daunting enough, he still has the bandwidth to take on a directorial role in his own business, AusJourney Pty. Ltd, which provides safe, educational, and fun adventures for young people practising or qualifying for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
