Performers at Infosys to wait for promotion

Companies in the IT industry have a tendency to promote people before their time but this initiative will not stop fast promotion of performers. Infosys said employees will get impacted if they do not meet the eligibility or performance or don't have enough experience. Infosys plans to continue the rollout of its iRace program under which the company’s staffs are required to wait longer for Infosys corporate education centre their promotions so that only the professionals with proven managerial skills can lead project teams. The new HR initiative — iRACE (Infosys Role and Career) — was introduced by the company last year. Some employees, who the company says form 5% of the total workforce, had resisted the initiative. In this tool there were five bands of assessment earlier which have now been increased to eight. There is a change in designation as well. For example, a project manager with 3.5 years of experience has been renamed as technical lead and he or she has to work for two more years to become a project manager. Although employees with 5 years of experience will remain as project managers, there are other criteria and a promotion will be given based on the previous appraisals and one has to show consistent performance.
