Ownership brings the best in people: CEO Rebel Foods

In a candid conversation with People Matters, Rebel Foods CEO, Jaydeep Barman shared his thoughts on why he values outcome vs. effort, his favorite leader, and how digitally-ready is he as a leader.

Who is the one leader you look up to?

Jeff Bezos has been that one individual who has played a vital role in painting a vision that's infinite for all the fellow business leaders

What is the one leadership lesson you learned on the go as a People Leader?

"Bestowing ownerships for big results" brings out the best in people. Making people responsible for what they do and what results they reap out of it, has a huge impact in creating ownership for oneself.

How digitally ready are you as a leader on a scale of one to ten?

5

What should leaders do: create more leaders or create more followers and why?

Obviously, create more leaders. Leadership, in my book, is not about "how many people report to you". Leaders, as I define them, are co-owners of a unified vision. Followers are just instruction takers.

One thing that makes you passionate about your work.

Redefining a 500-year-old industry fundamentally on a world stage.

What matters to you most, effort or outcome?

Outcome.

Three key learnings that you have picked up from your team.

-Focus more, for a longer period of time.

-Take fewer objectives at a time.

- Have patience.

What's the one most important factor you consider when hiring someone?

Ownership. The individual joining the team has to be responsible and owner of things like- results, actions, successes and failures.

What sort of leader would your team say that you are?

Thinks core innovation from the first principle at all times and gives people big goals to achieve. Also, very impatient, short-tempered (getting slightly better as age catching up), changes his mind too fast at times.
