Building the intelligent enterprise: How Udemy is advancing AI-enabled learning

Udemy's Vinay Pradhan reflects on how the organisation is redefining enterprise learning for an AI-first economy.
In this conversation with Vinay Pradhan, Country Head and Senior Director at Udemy, we explore how the company is shaping the future of enterprise learning through AI-enabled transformation. He shares insights on Udemy’s evolving strategy, the changing expectations of organisations, and what it takes to build readiness and resilience in an increasingly intelligent economy.
Here are a few excerpts from our conversation:
Udemy’s repositioning as an AI-powered reskilling platform reflects our commitment to addressing the growing need for accelerated workforce transformation in an AI-driven economy. Today, organisations require scalable, personalised upskilling opportunities to enable employees to adapt to evolving roles. Udemy’s dynamic instructor-led marketplace offers over 250,000 courses, including 4.5K courses on generative AI, keeping learning agile and up-to-date.
This strategic shift leverages Udemy’s strengths: cutting-edge AI tools like the AI Assistant for real-time learning tailored to career and skill growth, and the Udemy MCP Server that integrates learning into the flow of work, ensuring employees have access to expert-driven, real-time skill development. New solutions, such as the AI Readiness and AI Growth Packages, empower organisations to achieve widespread AI fluency, bridging skill gaps in technical and non-technical roles alike.
Udemy’s focus on outcome-driven engagement aligns with organisational priorities to drive measurable results, like greater productivity and reduced attrition. Companies adopting Udemy have seen tangible workforce improvements, proving its relevance in delivering ROI-focused learning solutions.
As AI continues to reshape both the demand for and delivery of skills, what are the primary challenges you see organisations facing in building AI readiness at scale? How is Udemy addressing these through its evolving learning architecture?
The primary challenge is the skills gap i.e. a fundamental misalignment between technology adoption and workforce capability, compounded by the lack of scale and speed. In fact, 71% of business leaders admit their workforce isn’t ready to harness AI’s full potential. Udemy addresses this challenge with its AI-driven learning solutions that blend content and context. We can overcome the traditional skills gap by embedding AI into the learning journey, making it adaptive, real-time, and role-specific so that employees can learn on the job. Udemy personalises upskilling at an unprecedented scale, moving companies towards becoming skills-based organisations. We offer the tools to build, measure and validate skills precisely where and when they are most needed.
The launch of the AI Readiness Packages represents a departure from Udemy’s earlier, open-access model. How are these curated learning pathways enabling organisations and professionals to strengthen their capabilities and accelerate transformation?
Udemy’s AI Readiness Packages mark a significant step forward, addressing evolving professional needs with curated learning pathways. These offerings foster AI fluency by combining foundational knowledge, real-time coaching via Udemy’s AI Assistant, and AI Role Play simulations for adaptive skills. Employees in virtually every stage of their AI upskilling journey can benefit from specialised, role-driven training and certification support. Designed to address AI skill gaps, these tailored packages enable organisations and professionals to stay competitive, adapt swiftly to advancing technology, and drive meaningful transformation in an AI-driven era.
Udemy has introduced AI simulation modules and the Model Context Protocol, which integrates learning within large language model environments. How do these innovations enable a more seamless, contextual, and embedded learning experience for users?
The Udemy MCP Server revolutionises learning by embedding personalised and contextual content directly within AI tools employees already use, enabling upskilling in the flow of work. This integration allows learners to gain relevant knowledge without disrupting productivity. Additionally, features like AI Role Play simulations enable employees to practice and refine their skills in immersive, risk-free environments, ensuring skills mastery. By providing scalable solutions tailored to organisational needs, Udemy is setting a new standard for contextual, personalised learning in an AI-driven world.
As these AI-led features are adopted by enterprise clients, what impact have you observed in terms of learner engagement, outcomes, or organisational skill maturity? How are these insights informing Udemy’s next phase of development?
We're seeing remarkable results from our AI-powered features. Enterprise clients like Genpact met their learning and development (L&D) goal at 100% and saw a 2x faster rollout of their GenAI program to keep up with their client demands. This demonstrated acceleration and efficiency.
We're also observing accelerated organisational skill maturity i.e. companies are building AI fluency 3x faster while simultaneously strengthening adaptive skills like critical thinking and leadership. This dual development validates our thesis that AI enhances rather than replaces human capabilities.
These insights are driving our next phase: deeper personalisation algorithms, expanded AI coaching capabilities, and industry-specific skill acceleration frameworks to meet the evolving needs of tomorrow's workforce.
With Udemy’s Forward India 2025 event set to convene business and learning leaders around the theme of transformation through AI, how will the discussions there build on these developments, and what perspectives or collaborations do you hope the event will advance?
FWD India 2025 marks the 4th edition of Udemy’s flagship event in India, taking place in Mumbai and Bengaluru in November. Past editions have brought together senior leaders from the country, building a powerful platform for exchanging ideas between leaders in learning and workforce transformation. This year, we’re taking it a step further - bringing together some of the most forward-thinking transformation leaders to explore how AI is reshaping learning, skills, and business outcomes in practical, measurable ways. With Udemy’s Chief Customer Experience Officer Neeracha Taychakhoonavudh in attendance, the event will blend inspiring keynotes, candid customer conversations, and interactive discussions that move beyond the AI hype to real impact. It’s designed to be fun, energising, and community-driven while staying sharply focused on results. We hope this convening sparks meaningful collaborations between enterprises, educators, and innovators to accelerate AI readiness, build future-focused talent, and drive sustainable transformation at scale.
