They say that dreams have enough drama for you to be able to write a book on it. And when the city you are in happens to be the Maximum City, Mumbai, where dreams do come true, then it’s almost poetic justice. Well, the night of 4th of December seemed like it was the weekend already and everyone waited for the news that would herald the beginning of the talent warriors.

The Talent Acquisition Leadership League Annual Conference & Awards, the first time such an initiative was undertaken in the country, saw power-packed sessions and amazing speakers who had come from various parts of the HR world. The People Matters & CEB’s SHL Talent Measurement Solutions initiative in partnership with PeopleStrong, Cornerstone OnDemand, Hult International Business School & KPMG came to an end with a glittering gala event and awards night. The day began with the Annual TA Leadership League. Mike Tims, President Asia Pacific, Africa & Middle East CEB’s SHL Talent Measurement Solutions & Shaurav Sen Country Head and Executive Director CEB India, kickstarted the day with CEB’s research on the importance of network performance and networked individuals for companies to excel in today’s complex and volatile environment.

The session led by Prithvi Shergill, Chief Human Resources Officer, HCL Technologies, was an eye opener for the recruitment leaders. He said that the core of the recruitment function is economic fulfillment. The next session was led by two veterans of the HR community in India, H. R. Shashikant, Group Executive President - Group HR, Aditya Birla Group and K. Ramkumar, ED, ICICI Bank. Before the 18 finalists took the stage, Pankaj Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO of PeopleStrong, said efforts must be made to focus on local sourcing and recruitment for local needs, powered by technology.

The most exciting session of the day was the elevator’s pitch of the 18 finalists of the TA Leadership League Awards 2013. Each team was given three minutes to present their best practice on stage. Tata Consultancy Services won the Most Popular Award for the most innovative practice in that session. From 57 best practice applications, 18 companies were finalized. The 18 finalists had to go through two rounds of intense selection before being selected.

During the awards evening, keynote speaker Aruna Jayanthi, CEO of Capgemini India, said HR is not a support function but a supply chain function of talent. Another keynote speaker Prabir Jha, who has recently taken over as President- HR of Reliance Industries, said talent acquisition will merge with talent management in the future to bring superior business value.
