IIT Madras Pravartak to launch AI-enabled HR analytics programme

The IIT Madras–backed initiative, supported by the Education Ministry’s SWAYAM Plus, aims to build AI and data skills for HR professionals.
IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, in partnership with the Union Education Ministry’s SWAYAM Plus initiative, is set to launch an AI-enabled HR analytics programme, marking a growing institutional push to build data and artificial intelligence capabilities within the human resources profession.
The first cohort of the programme will begin in January 2026, with registrations open until December 30, the institute said in a statement. The initiative is designed to equip learners with data-driven and AI-enabled HR capabilities aligned with evolving workforce and organisational needs.
The programme will run for four months and includes two days of on-campus learning at IIT Madras. Teaching will be led by IIT Madras faculty alongside industry practitioners specialising in HR analytics and artificial intelligence. Participants will also complete an industry-focused capstone project, covering HR dashboards, predictive modelling, AI applications in HR, key workforce metrics and data-led decision-making.
According to the institute, the programme is targeted at students and working professionals, particularly entry- to mid-level HR practitioners, aspiring HR leaders and professionals from sectors such as aviation, technology and services, where workforce analytics is becoming increasingly central to business decisions.
Dr M J Shankar Raman, chief executive officer of IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, said the programme reflects the shifting expectations from the HR function. “This programme marks an important step toward transforming HR into a truly data-driven and AI-empowered function. By combining academic rigour with practical industry insights, we aim to prepare future-ready HR leaders who can drive meaningful impact in organisations of tomorrow,” he said.
The launch comes at a time when organisations are placing greater emphasis on people analytics, predictive workforce planning and evidence-based HR decisions, as AI adoption accelerates across business functions. Government-backed platforms such as SWAYAM Plus have increasingly focused on aligning skilling programmes with industry demand, particularly in emerging digital and analytical domains.
IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation is a Section 8 company that houses the Technology Innovation Hub on Sensors, Networking, Actuators and Control Systems under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems, hosted by IIT Madras.
As companies continue to recalibrate their people strategies in response to automation and AI, initiatives such as this signal a broader effort to formalise HR analytics as a core professional capability rather than a niche specialisation.
