Alibaba Innovation Initiatives Business Group has appointed Huaiyuan Yang as Vice President of UCWeb Global Business. In his new role, Yang will lead overseas business of UCWeb, including India and Indonesia.

Shunyan Zhu, President of UCWeb, Alibaba Innovation Initiatives Business Group shared that with the rising digital media consumption, demand for diversified and interesting content has grown exponentially. As the firm sees a good growth opportunity here, it is now working to customize, curate and present diverse content to users via its complete product portfolio.

“The next few years will usher in a new era of content creation and distribution, even monetization. Yang’s appointment is a step forward for the group to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for us in strategic markets of India and Indonesia,” said Zhu.

The browser has seen massive surge of over 3.6 crore in short-videos content last year, making it a crucial product for UCWeb.

As the new Vice President, Yang will be responsible for creating UC's content strategy for short-videos content as well. He will also work on snackable content.

Yang will particularly focus on creating strategies for India and Indonesia market.

UC has introduced many new products to push growth in these two markets. Early this year, UC launched the WeShare channel on UC Browser. It is an all-in-one platform for localized, entertaining content including short videos, memes, GIFs and more. For India, it announced updates to UC Browser Mini and UC Browser Turbo to offer localised products.

Now what new changes and innovations Yang brings in and how the Alibaba subsidy gains from it are a few things to look forward to.
