Hindalco names B Mukherjee Joint President and HR head for mining unit

Hindalco Industries appoints senior HR leader B Mukherjee as Joint President and Head HR for its Mining and Minerals division.
Hindalco Industries has appointed B Mukherjee as Joint President and Head of Human Resources for its Mining and Minerals business, strengthening leadership oversight for people strategy across one of the company’s key operational segments.
The appointment places Mukherjee in charge of human capital management, workforce capability and talent development across Hindalco’s upstream mining operations, which support the company’s aluminium value chain.
Mukherjee confirmed the development in a public professional update, saying he had started a new role as Joint President and Head HR (Mining and Minerals Business) at Hindalco Industries Limited.
Leadership role in a critical business segment
In his new position, Mukherjee will lead the HR function across Hindalco’s mining and minerals division, focusing on organisational effectiveness, workforce planning and leadership development across large-scale industrial sites.
The role is expected to support workforce readiness, safety culture and leadership pipelines across the company’s mining operations and associated facilities.
Hindalco’s mining and minerals unit forms a critical upstream component of its integrated aluminium operations, providing raw materials and operational support to downstream production facilities.
Industry observers note that mining companies are increasingly investing in structured workforce planning and talent management to support complex industrial operations and long-term resource development.
Long association with Hindalco
Mukherjee has spent more than a decade within the Aditya Birla Group’s metals businesses, holding several senior HR leadership roles within Hindalco.
Before this appointment, he served as Senior Vice President and Head HR for the Mining and Minerals business, a role he held between 2024 and 2025.
He previously worked as Senior Vice President and Head Human Resources for Hindalco’s operations in Singrauli, and earlier served in multiple HR leadership roles within the group’s metals and manufacturing businesses.
His career within the Aditya Birla Group includes positions such as Vice President and Head HR, Assistant Vice President and Head HR, and General Manager HR, overseeing workforce strategy across several industrial locations.
Experience in workforce and industrial relations
Mukherjee’s expertise spans strategic workforce planning, employee engagement, compensation and benefits management, leadership development and industrial relations.
He has worked extensively in large industrial environments where workforce capability, safety standards and labour relations play a central role in operational continuity.
The metals and mining sector has increasingly focused on building skilled workforce pipelines and stronger organisational resilience, particularly as companies expand operations and modernise production processes.
Strengthening workforce strategy
Hindalco’s appointment of a senior HR leader for its mining business reflects the company’s broader focus on strengthening organisational capability across its industrial operations.
The mining division supports the group’s aluminium value chain through resource extraction, operational support and raw material supply, making workforce management a strategic priority.
As Hindalco continues to expand its industrial footprint, leadership roles focused on talent development, organisational capability and workforce safety are expected to play a key role in supporting operational growth.
