Lenskart names Shweta Shukla as new Chief People Officer

Lenskart, the Indian eyewear retail chain, has officially appointed Shweta Shukla as its Chief People Officer, effective immediately.

Based in Singapore, Shweta will join the leadership board and take charge of the Global HR function, with a primary focus on driving global growth, organizational effectiveness, and fostering culture and leadership.

In her new capacity, Shweta will report directly to Peyush Bansal, the Founder and CEO of Lenskart, who had temporarily assumed the role following the departure of the former CHRO, Suruchi Maitra, in 2021. Maitra had held the position for approximately 2.5 years before embarking on her entrepreneurial journey.

Notably, Shweta is also the founder of The CultureGram, a platform facilitating honest discussions and collaboration on topics such as Culture, Leadership, Inclusion, Identity, and embracing differences.

Drawing on her extensive experience, Shweta has previously held key leadership positions, including Vice President and Head of Talent and Human Resources - Asia Pacific at Netflix, Head of Human Resources - Southeast Asia and India at Facebook, and Assistant Vice President of HR at Genpact. Additionally, she has played pivotal roles at Aon Hewitt, Hewitt Associates, and Genpact.

With over 20 years of expertise in People, Talent, and Culture leadership, Shweta's appointment comes at a crucial point for Lenskart, which faced significant leadership changes earlier this year. Despite the challenges, the SoftBank-backed eyewear company is on the path to recovery and recently bolstered its capabilities by acquiring the AI-based computer vision start-up, Tango Eye. This strategic move aims to drive growth and facilitate a seamless transition between digital and physical touchpoints.

Furthermore, Lenskart has expanded its leadership team by welcoming Vanessa Yeo Barger as the General Manager of Marketing in September 2023. In this role, she will oversee branding, campaigning, social media, and communications, playing a key role in enhancing brand awareness and driving overall growth under the leadership of Peyush.
