Mphasis appoints venture investor Girish Srikrishna Paranjpe as chairperson, succeeding Jan Kathleen Hier, as the IT firm sharpens its AI-led strategy.

Girish Srikrishna Paranjpe has been appointed chairperson of the board of Mphasis, the Indian IT services company said on Thursday, marking a leadership transition at a time when the firm is doubling down on artificial intelligence-led growth.

The appointment took effect on 7 January 2026, the company said in a statement. Paranjpe succeeds Jan Kathleen Hier, whose term as independent director and chairperson concluded on 10 December 2025.

Paranjpe has been an independent director on the Mphasis board since October 2024. He is also a co-promoter and general partner at Exfinity Venture Partners, where he sits on the investment committee, bringing deep experience in capital allocation and governance to the role.

In addition to Mphasis, Paranjpe serves as an independent director on the boards of Axis Bank, CRISIL, Axis Max Life Insurance and Modenik Lifestyle, and as a director at IBS Plc, according to the company.

Nitin Rakesh, chief executive and managing director of Mphasis, said the board was “delighted” with the appointment and looked forward to Paranjpe’s leadership as the company executes its strategy and seeks to create value for stakeholders, the company statement said.

Paranjpe said it was an honour to take on the role at a time when artificial intelligence is reshaping technology and business models, adding that he looked forward to working with the board and management to drive long-term, sustainable value, according to the statement.

The leadership change comes as Mphasis positions itself as an AI-led, platform-driven technology services provider, with a growing focus on automation, cloud and data-led transformation for global clients. Industry analysts say board-level continuity and capital markets expertise are likely to be critical as mid-tier IT firms navigate uneven demand and rising investment requirements in AI.

With Paranjpe at the helm of the board, investors will watch closely for how governance and strategic oversight evolve as Mphasis balances near-term execution with longer-term bets on artificial intelligence-led services.
