MRPL names Mundkur S Kamath as Managing Director

In his new role, Mundkur S Kamath brings 30 years of industry experience and succeeds Sanjay Varma, who has stepped down from the position.

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has announced the appointment of Mundkur S Kamath as the Managing Director (MD), following approval from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Kamath, who has been serving as the Executive Director since 2022, has been confirmed as the full-time MD until the date of his superannuation on November 30, 2027, or until further notice, whichever comes earlier.

In his new role, Kamath assumes his responsibilities with immediate effect after the current MD, Sanjay Varma, stepped down from the role. The board stated in an official announcement, "The Board of Directors appointed Shri Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath as an Additional Director designated as Managing Director on the Board of the Company, replacing Shri Sanjay Varma in compliance with the provisions of the Companies Act, 2013. Shri Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath has assumed the role of Managing Director effective from 28/02/2024." Varma was appointed as MD in June 2023.

Kamath joined MRPL in 1992 and has held several leadership roles over the last three decades. On the academic front, he holds a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from MIT Manipal and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from TA Pai Management Institute Manipal.
