Shyam Metallics appoints Ravi Shankar as Group CHRO

Veteran HR leader Ravi Shankar brings 29 years of cross-industry experience to drive transformation at Shyam Metallics.
Shyam Metallics has appointed Ravi Shankar as its new Group Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), effective 21 July 2025. The information was confirmed directly to People Matters by the incoming HR head.
Shankar joins the company from Jai Raj Steel, where he served as President and Group CHRO. At Jai Raj Steel, he was responsible for HR operations across manufacturing units in Hyderabad, Kurnool, and Bellary.
With a career spanning over 29 years, Shankar has held HR leadership roles across sectors including steel, power, textiles, and manufacturing. His previous employers include Jindal Steel & Power, Welspun India, Adani Power, and Spice Energy.
His project portfolio includes HR leadership for the JSPL Angul 12 million tonne (MT) facility, Jindal Power’s 2400 MW expansion, and Adani’s 4620 MW Mundra project. These roles involved workforce planning and execution in large-scale industrial environments.
In his new role at Shyam Metallics, Shankar will oversee HR operations across group companies and business verticals. According to information shared with People Matters, his responsibilities will cover workforce planning, policy development, leadership programmes, and organisational processes across the group’s locations.
Shankar’s work in HR has been recognised by industry bodies. He received the ATD Best Award in 2018 and the ATD Practice and Citation Award in 2015. Other awards include the Dale Carnegie Global Leadership Award and the People Matters Award for Learning Transformation. During his tenure at Jindal Power, the company was listed among India’s Top 50 “Great Places to Work” in 2015.
Shyam Group, the parent company of Shyam Metallics, operates across West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh. The group’s business areas include steel, ferro alloys, and related industrial segments.
At the time of publication, Shyam Metallics had not released additional details regarding its HR plans or any structural changes following this appointment.
Ravi Shankar’s appointment follows a broader pattern of leadership movements within India’s industrial sector, particularly in companies operating in capital-intensive and workforce-heavy environments.
