Suvamoy Choudhury to lead HR for Vodafone- Idea combine

Idea Cellular and Vodafone Group announced the proposed leadership of their combined business, which will come back into the effort after the merger has been completed. This is in line with the announcement of March 20th, 2017, which said that the management team of the combined business would be confirmed prior to closing. Balesh Sharma who is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Vodafone India will be the new CEO for Vodafone-Idea India telco combine. 

The new entity which will come in the picture will have many new leaders from both the companies. In a new development, Suvamoy Roy Choudhury who is currently the Director HR, Vodafone India will lead the combined entity and he will be responsible for all the HR functions. 

Commenting on the development, Kumar Mangalam Birla and Vodafone Group CEO Vittorio Colao said, "We are pleased to announce the proposed management team for the new company to be created through the merger of Idea and Vodafone India. The team has extensive operational experience and is an excellent blend of expertise from both companies. We look forward to the completion of the merger and competing as one company in the marketplace. "

Currently, in his role at Vodafone India, Choudhury is responsible for driving organization effectiveness and change, learning and capability development, talent management and resourcing. Suvamoy Choudhry joins Vodafone after a long stint of 9 years with Reckitt Benckiser where he was Director - Human Resources, South Asia.

He started his career with ICI India as a Management Trainee in 1988. He worked across different businesses and locations in ICI – Fertilizers, Explosives, and Specialty Chemicals. After 8 years at ICI, he joined the telecom company, Motorola, as HR manager, for a short stint of just over a year. He then moved to Baxter Healthcare as General Manager - HR, where he spent more than 9 years in various Regional assignments before moving to Reckitt Benckiser in 2007.

 He is an alumnus of Presidency College, Kolkata and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
