Tata Motors appoints Shailesh Chandra as MD & CEO

Chandra will also continue as Managing Director of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., the group’s wholly owned subsidiary focused on electric vehicles, the company said. 

In his new role, Chandra brings over three decades of industry leadership experience. He joined Tata Motors in 1995 as a Production Manager and has since held key positions, including Divisional Manager at the Office of the MD, Deputy General Manager in the Vice Chairman's Office, President of the Passenger Vehicles Business Unit – Electric Mobility, and Head of Corporate Strategy & Business Transformation. He has also served Tata Sons as General Manager and Assistant Vice President. 

Alongside Chandra’s appointment, the group has named Dhiman Gupta as the successor to Group Chief Financial Officer P.B. Balaji, who will step down in November 2025. 

Gupta, currently CFO of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, brings extensive experience to his new role. He previously served Standard Chartered Bank for more than 18 years, including as Associate Director of Mergers & Acquisitions, and worked at Larsen & Toubro as a Design Engineer. 

The company has also approved the appointment of Sudha Krishnan as an Additional, Non-Executive Independent Director for five years starting October 1, 2025. Meanwhile, Hanne Sorensen will continue on the Jaguar Land Rover board, and Kosaraju Veerayya Chowdary and Guenter Karl Butschek will join the board of TML Commercial Vehicles Ltd. 

Some of the recent key appointments at Tata Motors include Ravneet Singh as GM and Head of Corporate HR, and Shantanu Naidu as General Manager & Head of Strategic Initiatives.
