Workday strengthens its commitment to India as a strategic growth and innovation hub with new investments

The next phase of expansion will be guided by Sunil Jose, recently appointed President, India, who brings over three decades of experience in enterprise technology.
Workday, the enterprise AI platform for managing people, money, and agents, has announced its India expansion plans, with the opening of new offices in Delhi and Bengaluru in the financial year 2027. The company’s continued investment in the region reflects its focus on advancing technology leadership, nurturing local talent, and driving customer success as organisations embrace AI to transform how work gets done.
Alongside this planned expansion, Workday already maintains teams in Pune, Chennai and Mumbai, employing more than 1,000 people across the country. This figure is expected to exceed 1,200 by the end of the current financial year, informed the top official of the company during the virtual media roundtable.
Employees in these cities contribute to a range of global initiatives, including product development, AI research, professional services and customer experience, supporting organisations both in India and abroad.

India has been an important part of Workday’s growth story for many years, and the company continues to invest in the region’s talent, partnerships, and customer relationships. Teams here work across a mix of global initiatives - from product development and AI research to professional services and customer experience - supporting organisations in India and abroad as they look to work smarter and move with greater speed.
Rob Enslin, President and Chief Commercial Officer at Workday, said, “India is at the heart of Workday’s global innovation journey. Our commitment to the region goes beyond business growth. It is about tapping into India’s deep talent pool, fostering innovation that shapes the global workplace, and partnering with organisations redefining how people and technology work together. With Sunil leading our India operations, we are excited to deepen our engagement with customers and partners as they navigate this new era of AI-powered transformation.”
Sunil Jose, president of India at Workday, added, “India’s enterprises are at a defining moment where digital acceleration and AI are reshaping how businesses grow, operate and empower their people. With more than 1,800 global customers and 3.8 million monthly active users on Workday in India, we have a close view of the shifts underway across industries. That insight, combined with our people-first approach to innovation, helps us support organisations as they adopt AI responsibly, simplifying complexity, unlocking potential and creating lasting impact for employees and customers alike.”
According to Jose, the company’s India data centre enables them to serve new customers locally. The partner ecosystem here includes leading global names, with over 6,000 certifications and an average of four years’ experience. We are also investing in university partnerships and developer programmes to build future talent, Jose said.
Workday solutions are well-suited for large enterprises, IT, BPOs, and digital agencies, as well as sectors like BFSI, that seek to transform HR and ERP functions for a new generation of employees, according to the company’s officials.
