Constantly under the scanner because of the complexities of business, the demands from an ever changing macro-economic environment and the pressures of meeting quarter-on-quarter deliverables has meant that the CEO is now more stretched than ever before, and it's taking a toll on his tenure at the top. It's not surprising that the average tenure of the Indian CEO has decreased 35 percent from that of the immediate predecessor, and now stands at just under seven years. According to Randsatd the worst off was the financial services sector where 29 percent of CEOs spent less than five years at the helm. The tenure is falling sharply in the west too. In the US, the average tenure of a CEO has been on a decline and is typically about three years now because of an extreme pressure on short-term performance.
