Restructuring at Yahoo over the past year, particularly the one announced in April by then CEO Scott Thompson, has raised India's strategic position in the company's global operations. India now has six senior executives with global roles, up from one a year ago. India has been a critical part of Yahoo's R&D work for several years. The Bangalore centre has accounted for over 20 percent of the company's patent filings. It has 2,000 employees, a sixth of Yahoo's global workforce of 12,000. This number has remained roughly the same, even as the company downsized globally by about 2,000 this year. With the reorganization Shouvick Mukherjee, Hari Vasudev, Anindo Roy, Suresh Hosakoppal, and Ashish Vikram have taken up global roles.
