TCS appoints Rajesh Gopinathan as the new CEO

Rajesh Gopinathan has been appointed as new CEO of TCS to succeed N Chandrasekaran the current CEO who will now take charge of Tata Sons as the Chairman.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced the appointment of Rajesh Gopinathan as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. Gopinathan will succeed N Chandrasekaran the current CEO who will now take charge of Tata Sons as the Chairman.  Prior to his appointment to the company’s top post, Gopinathan was the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Vice President for nearly four years since February 2013.

Subramaniam, who is currently President (TCS Financial Solutions) has also been appointed as a director on the board of TCS as well as the COO of the company.

Gopinathan joined TCS from Tata Industries and worked to drive TCS’ newly established e-business unit in the United States. He was also involved in the design, structure and implementation of the new organisational structure and operating model of the company. In his previous role as the CFO, he was responsible for financial management of the company’s individual operating units.

Excited on his elevation Gopinathan said,

TCS has evolved into an industry leader during Chandrasekaran’s tenure. It is definitely big shoes to fill. With continuous guidance from Chandrasekaran and the support of the TCS team, I am confident of continuing this great journey that TCS is on." 

There won’t be any major changes in TCS and the vision and roadmap for TCS will remain the same.

Congratulating Gopinathan on his appointment, Chandrasekaran said,

TCS' core strength is its strong leadership talent that is collaborative and aspirational. I have been privileged to lead this company of great professionals over the last seven years. I am absolutely delighted that the board has chosen Gopinathan to lead this company into the future. I am sure he will spearhead TCS to great heights”.

Gopinathan has played a key role in helping TCS becoming a USD 16.5 billion global company with over 371,000 employees.

He has worked across different geographies and units before being appointed CFO in 2013. Prior to becoming the CFO Rajesh was the Vice President – Business Finance. Gopinathan is an alumni of Regional Engineering College, Trichy (now National Institute of Technology), and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
