Weekly Roundup (Jan 12-16): News you cannot miss

The e-commerce industry is causing severe impacts to the Indian industry and some of them are beginning to show. Most of the large established firms, such as Egon Zehnder, Russel Reynolds, and Michael Page have made e-commerce hiring their priority. As the e-commerce industry in India is expanding rapidly, it has presented a big opportunity for all recruitment service companies across the spectrum. Secondly, the e-commerce industry is also causing consulting companies to realign their business strategies. More and more consulting companies, including PwC, EY, BCG, Deloitte, and KPMG are expanding their digital consulting practices. Some of them even have plans to treble the size of their teams to capture this growing market.

Some of the key high profile appointments this week include the hiring of Vikram Raizada as the Head of Amazon’s jewellery business, and Deepak Parekh to the Board of BAE Systems. Besides that Ashish Joshi was appointed as the COO of the FMCG company, Marico, and AP Parigi was appointed as Network 18 Group’s CEO.

Another news that made quite a flutter this week was the Madras High Court’s revoking of the IT service company TCS’s decision of sacking an employee. The employee who felt that her termination was unjust approached the court though the the Federation of IT Employees (FITE), and her appeal was upheld.

Among other entrepreneurship news, one that strikes is the launch of U Education by the entrepreneur, Ronnie Screwvala. Screwvala is believed to invest a huge 100 crores to this venture aimed to provide education services to the college and university sector.
