TISS to set up national vocational school

In order to create a facility in the country which will help mainstream skill development and vocational education and link it to industry requirements; the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will set up a national vocational school in its campus from this year-end. From training to mobilization of youth, aptitude testing to behavioral training, the school will cover various aspects of vocational training. This is yet another initiative being undertaken by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to bring in competency based skills along with formal learning and increase employability. According to TISS, the school will initially offer several certificate programmes. While the plan is to train approximately 7,000 candidates in first year in various skills, according to present demands and requirements of the industry, the numbers are expected to steadily rise to one lakh in the next six-seven years.
