Tata Steel employees set to receive up to ₹3.9 lakh in bonus

Tata Steel will pay ₹303 crore in bonuses to unionised staff for FY 25, with payouts ranging from ₹39,004 to ₹3.92 lakh.
Tata Steel has approved a substantial bonus payout worth ₹303.13 crore for its employees for the financial year 2024–25, following the signing of a memorandum of settlement (MoS) with the Tata Workers’ Union (TWU) in Jamshedpur, according to a report by The Economic Times.
Of the total sum, ₹152.44 crore is earmarked for the Jamshedpur divisions—including the Tubes division—covering 11,446 employees.
The bonus scheme sets the minimum payout at ₹39,004 for employees with full attendance, while the maximum amount, based on actual attendance, stands at ₹392,213.
“Tata Steel noted that the majority of its workforce earns more than the threshold in the Payment of Bonus (Amendment) Act 2015, which would normally render them ineligible for statutory bonus payments. Nonetheless, honouring its longstanding traditions, the company has decided to extend the bonus to all unionised employees,” the ET report explained.
The MoS was signed on behalf of Tata Steel by CEO & MD T. V. Narendran, Chief People Officer Atrayee Sanyal, and other senior officials. Representing the TWU were Union President Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, General Secretary Satish Kumar Singh, along with other office bearers. The Jharkhand Deputy Labour Commissioner and Conciliation Officer, Arvind Kumar, witnessed the agreement.
This bonus payout underscores Tata Steel’s commitment to employee welfare, even when bonuses are not mandated by law for higher-earning staff. By voluntarily extending this benefit, the company reinforces a culture of respect and solidarity with its workforce.
Similarly, in previous years, Tata Steel has maintained a tradition of paying bonuses through union agreements—though this year’s ₹303.13 crore is notable for its scale and clarity in the payout range.
As India's steel sector continues to navigate production challenges and global market fluctuations, Tata Steel’s gesture sends a strong message of stability and trust-building with its employees.
For the 11,446 unionised staff at Jamshedpur—and likely others across eligible divisions—the bonus offers both financial reward and recognition of service. And with the striking minimum and maximum amounts, the scheme balances fairness and performance incentives effectively.
