DocTalk CEO steps down, 100 employees laid off

Akshat Goenka, CEO and Co-Founder of Health- tech start-up DocTalk Solutions has resigned from his position. Goenka resigned over health and personal issues as he wanted to take some time off from work.

According to a business daily, DocTalk has raised around $5 million from Matrix Partners and Khosla Ventures, among others, has laid off nearly 100 people. “It was a good time for the team to restructure some of the performing and non-performing people. But apart from that, I don’t see anything completely unforeseen happening.” Goenka’s exit comes ahead of the two-year-old company’s pivot to a new business segment. The company now has less than 40 employees.

The app started as a bridge between doctors and patients through its mobile app. The app has built an electronic medical record (EMR) solution, which helps doctors write digital prescriptions.

DocTalk is having tough competition from other online doctor consultation services such as Mfine, Doctor Insta, Practo and others.

According to media reports, the app was engaged with venture partners to raise around $10 million. However, the discussions did not materialize.
