Javadekar catches latecomers, asks them to take leave

Dozens of officials in the information and broadcasting ministry were left red-faced on Monday after an unexpected visit by minister Prakash Javadekar, who walked into the office sharp at 9 am, found more than 100 of them absent from the desks. Staff at the ministry were used to arriving late for office as Javadekar, who also holds the environment portfolio besides I&B, would spent the first half of his day at the environment ministry's offices at Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, Jorbagh. But on Monday he sprang a surprise by reaching the I&B ministry's office in Shastri Bhawan at 9 am. The late-comers were mostly the junior staff. Secretary level officials were on time. Officials said some 200 people had come in late to work, and they queued up outside Javadekar's office on the fifth floor when they heard about the message he had left for them.
