Britannia hopes to restart Delhi unit on July 18

Britannia Industries Ltd expects to restart operations at its biscuit manufacturing unit in Delhi, where contract workers have gone on strike since July 7 demanding permanent employment status. “We are trying to restore normalcy and expect to start operating a production line by Friday,” a senior official at the Bangalore-headquartered company said. Britannia has termed the strike “illegal” and the company had stopped production 10 days ago at its Lawrence Road unit in Delhi. On Thursday, Britannia, in a note to the BSE, maintained that the strike has had a very small impact on the overall business operations. Shares of Britannia closed at ₹998 on the BSE, up by about one per cent.
