120 community colleges to be launched by Govt.

The government of India is planning to set up community colleges based on the North American model. Mr. Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State, HRD, in a speech at the FICCI Higher Education Summit 2013 announced this. Out of the planned 200 colleges, 120 will be established this year. A community college is mid-way between a pure vocational training institute and a university.
