Dr. Santrupt Misra, the former HR Director of the Aditya Birla Group, made a significant move by joining the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha. Taking to LinkedIn, he shared a photo with Naveen Patnaik and many others, expressing, “After being named the BJD’s candidate for the Cuttack Lok Sabha seat, I alongside MLA candidates Devi Ranjan Tripathy (Banki), Chandra Sarathi Behera (Cuttack Sadar), Soubhik Biswal (Cuttack Choudwar), Ranendra Pratap Swain (Athagarh), and Pramod Mallick (Niali), visited Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas. With a distinguished career spanning various leadership roles, including Director of Human Resources for the Aditya Birla Group, Group Director of Birla Carbon, and Director of Chemicals, Dr. Misra will bring a wealth of experience to his new political endeavour.

In his capacity as the national spokesperson of BJD, there are speculations that he may be nominated as a BJD candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election.

Dr. Misra expressed his deep-rooted connection with Odisha and his eagerness to contribute to the state's welfare after spending many years abroad.

He also revealed how his decision to join the BJD was influenced by his admiration for CM Naveen Patnaik's governance philosophy and visionary leadership.

He commended Patnaik's principled governance and holistic approach, which have propelled the state towards remarkable progress over the past 25 years, integrating spiritual values into administrative practices.

Dr. Santrupt Misra’s retirement

The conclusion of the year often ushers in moments of transition and change, and one such unexpected departure came from the Aditya Birla Group’s Group HR Director Santrupt Misra in December, when he announced his decision to depart the corporate realm and pursue new endeavours.

Misra's decision was communicated to fellow Aditya Birla leaders through an internal email in the same week, after which his tenure officially concluded on January 15, 2024, marking the end of 28 years of dedicated service.

During his tenure, Misra not only ascended through the ranks of the Aditya Birla HR function but also assumed leadership roles across multiple business units—a rare feat for an HR leader. He has helmed the group's IT function, served as CEO of its Carbon Black and Chemicals businesses, and currently holds the positions of Group HR Director, Group Director of Birla Carbon, and Director of Chemicals.

As an HR leader, Misra has achieved numerous milestones, including establishing the Aditya Birla Group as a prominent employer brand and steering Birla Carbon into a major global enterprise.

Additionally, he is recognised for mentoring the sixth generation scions of the Birla family, Aryaman and Ananya Birla. In light of Misra's departure, the Aditya Birla Group has confirmed Ashok Ramchandran, the Group Executive President of Human Resources, as his successor in the role of Group HR Director.

Ramchandran, who joined the group from Vodafone in 2015, has been a vocal proponent of providing employees, particularly younger individuals, with ample opportunities for growth. He emphasises the pivotal role of emerging leaders in driving the transformation journey within HR and across the entire business landscape.
