Amul’s Managing Director K Rathnam quits

After working with Amul Dairy for 22 years Dr. K Rathnam, Managing Director has stepped down from his role for personal reasons. His resignation was accepted during a special board meeting on Saturday, 31st March 2018 and Jayen Mehta, Senior General Manager, Planning, and Marketing, has been appointed as in-charge MD of Kaira Milk Union.

"I have worked for Amul for 22 years, and want to do something for myself in the next 10-15 years," said Dr. K Rathnam.

Although the resignation comes after the reports of an alleged fraud worth INR 450 crore, however, board members refuted reports that Rathnam had been found guilty.

Ramsinh Parmar, Chairman of Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd, popularly known as Amul Dairy said the allegations were “far from the truth” and “perpetuated by rumor mongers”.

Dr. K Rathnam had joined Amul dairy as Deputy Manager (product development) in 1995 and in 2014 he was appointed as the Managing Director. He worked in Food and Dairy sector for more than two decades and also holds a doctorate in foods, nutrition and food science from Sardar Patel University.
