To begin with, one of the 15 recommendations made by the Bank Boards Bureau includes the name of Anshula Kant, the current Deputy Managing Director of State Bank of India (SBI) for the post of Managing Director (MD) in the bank. The post has been vacant after B Sriram moved from the role and joined IDBI as CEO and MD.

Besides Anshula, the recommendations include six more names of current Deputy Managing Directors of SBI- Pallav Mohapatra, Padmaja Chunduru, Karnam Sekar, J. Packirisamy, Mrityunjay Mahapatra and C.V. Nageswar.

This list of suggestion also includes the name of other PSB executives like Gopal Murli Bhagat (executive director (ED), Corporation Bank), P.V. Bharathi ( ED, Canara Bank), M.K. Bhattacharya ( ED, Indian Bank), Atul Kumar Goel ( ED, Union Bank), S.Harisankar ( ED, Allahabad Bank), Ashok Kumar Pradhan ( ED, United Bank of India), A.S. Rajeev ( ED, Indian Bank) and C.H. S.S. Mallikarjuna Rao ( ED, Syndicate Bank).

It was a month ago that BBB headed by B P Sharma, former secretary of Department of Personnel and Training, started the journey of shortlisting candidates for about 30 top-level vacancies in the public sector banks beginning June 13. As per the report, it has already interviewed about five dozen senior executives from different government-owned banks.

While BBB has come with a list of names for the government to consider, the final decision on it is yet to be taken. For now, the recommendations made by the board are based on the interactions held among them and are subject to various clearances. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will access the list of suggestions and take the final decision in this regard.
