Mumbai: Former co-founder and COO of Goibibo Deepak Tuli has been appointed by MakeMyTrip as its senior vice-president – growth business.
In a release issued by the online travel company, MakeMyTrip said Tuli will focus on building and implementing strategies for growing new business lines in the accommodations segment for the company.
"We are excited to have Tuli join our leadership team. His rich experience, deep understanding and knowledge of the diverse aspects of the travel e-commerce ecosystem will be a valuable asset as we ready ourselves for the next phase of growth... Accommodation space in the country is growing at a fast pace and is a key focus area at MakeMyTrip. We are confident that under Deepak's leadership, we will further strengthen our presence in this space," said Rajesh Magow, co-founder and CEO of MakeMyTrip.
On his appointment, Tuli said, "The e-commerce industry is growing rapidly in the country and accommodations segment has emerged as a new area within the travel e-commerce ecosystem. My role at MakeMyTrip is exciting and challenging at the same time.”
Bringing Tuli to the management team is in line with the company’s efforts to further strengthen its leadership team, the company said. Earlier in Janaury this year, MakeMyTrip appointed Saujanya Shrivastava, ex-chief marketing officer at Bharti AXA Life Insurance, as chief marketing officer. The company also hired Anshuman Bapna, founder of MyGola.com, which was acquired by MakeMyTrip in April 2015, as chief products officer a couple of months later.
Tuli joins from Goibibo and comes with over 10 years of experience in the e-commerce ecosystem, expertise in diverse areas, including mobile platforms, digital marketing, product management, P&L management and CRM among others. Tuli was also part of the launch team at Yatra, where he set up non-air business for the company.
