Lockdown 2.0: PM Modi urges employers to not lay off employees
The situation in India is becoming worse, and there are more than 10000 positive cases of Coronavirus in the country. As the number is increasing rapidly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed the nation for the third time in less than a month and announced the extension of lockdown till May 3, 2020.
He said, “In my discussions with the state governments, and various stakeholders, one thing was unanimous: That we should extend the lockdown. So, I announce today that the lockdown will be extended till May 3.”
The decision was taken after PM Modi’s regular meeting with Chief Ministers last week. States like Odisha, Punjab, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Telangana and Karnataka, have already announced the extension of lockdown.
The government is planning to ease some of the pockets after analyzing the situation, and essential activities would be allowed in areas that showed improvement after April 20. This step will strengthen the current condition of daily wage workers. Daily wagers are worst impacted because all source of their income has been stopped due to the current crisis.
While concluding, he asked the citizens to thank all the warriors who are keeping the country safe. The Prime Minister thanked doctors, nurses, police officers, sanitation workers, and all the people who are helping others. He has also urged the corporate houses not to lay off their employees in this challenging situation.
