SN Burman, Vice President (Sales, Marketing & Service-Passenger vehicles), who joined Tata Motors from Maruti Suzuki in 2015 has resigned from his position. The role shall now be taken by Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business (PVBU), Tata Motors, who Burman was earlier reporting to.

Burman had worked in Maruti Suzuki for about 23 years. In his most recent role there, he held important portfolio as VP-sales for commercial channel, pre-owned car business and rural and institutional sales. Interestingly, both Burman and Pareek had joined Tata Motors from Maruti Suzuki.

Besides the resignation of Burman, there are several other changes Tata Motors has made in its PVBU team. The Head Domestic Sales role is temporarily suspended and we will have an interim structure with a Head Sales - North & East and a Head Sales - South & West reporting to Mayank, the letter further mentioned. Further, Sheel Sagar is appointed as Head Sales - North & East and Amit Kamat as Head Sales - South & West in addition to his current responsibilities at Head Sales Support and S&OP.

“It’s time to rise to the occasion and deliver performance with a single-minded focus. In this context I would like to announce the following organizational changes in PVBU with immediate effect,” mentioned Tata Motors.

The auto sector in the country has been in crisis and struggling due to lack of consumer demand. According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), during the 42-day festivals this year, retail sales of vehicles across categories fell 2 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) to 2.41 million units. The poor sales has resulted in several job losses and shaken many major businesses in the industry. When would the situation for the sector gets better remains uncertain.
