Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri shared government’s plan to help the staff of now defunct Jet Airways and said that they are planning to launch a website to help them with their employment. The Civil Aviation Ministry has even been in touch with other private airlines such as SpiceJet and IndiGo to assist Jet staff get meaningful jobs.

The beleaguered airline which stopped its operations on 17 April due to an acute cash crunch, has seen an exodus of top executives and board members in the past few months. Many leaders and employees have already moved on. For some it has been able to find new opportunities, while some are still on the search.

As more than two decades old airlines shut down its business, its employees were left stranded. That is when many other private airlines came to their rescue and hired the staff of Jet.

Back in April, SpiceJet had absorbed about 100 pilots, 200 cabin crew members, and 200 technical and airport staff. Then again in June, they hired more people with the total number of hires from Jet as high as 1,100. SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh, had then shared, “Expectation is that we will go up to 2,000 people. It will be pilots, cabin crew, (people) from airport services, security.”

Not only airlines but other companies like coworking WeWork and BridgeLabz also stepped up to help the displaced employees of Jet Airways.

WeWork the global network of collaborative spaces announced that it will open up job opportunities and will actively consider job applications from Jet employees for openings across marketing, sales, community management, and sales. BridgeLabz, a startup focused on solving the tech employability challenge, in May shared its plan to hire Jet Airways employees. The startup said it will be strengthening its HR and sales team with the new hires in Mumbai and Delhi.

Given that before the airline suspended its operation, it had nearly 20,000 staff on its rolls, taking care of the employment of all of them still remains a daunting task.
