Consulting firms flocked to more Indian Institutes of Management to lap up fresh MBA graduates this year, as they cast the net wide for management talent with an improving economy and government initiatives such as Digital India driving demand for their services.

At IIMs in Kashipur, Trichy, Udaipur, Rohtak and Shillong, offers in consulting matched those from traditional areas like financial services, technology and consumer goods. While some B-schools reported more than a two-fold increase in offers from consultancies, sector biggies such as EY, Deloitte, Cognizant and The Boston Consulting Group said they hired more MBAs this year — by up to 50% by some of them — offering as much as 30% higher salaries than last year for entry-level positions. Cognizant, which topped ET's Top Recruiters at B-School study for over three years now, said it stepped up hiring this year, including from the new IIMs.
