McKinsey sidesteps IITs, to hire graduates through in-house interviews

Placements at all older IITs are set to kick off on December 1. McKinsey will be hiring graduates from the IIT class of 2016 through interviews conducted at its offices.

Mumbai: McKinsey has bypassed the placement process at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campuses, and is instead hiring graduates directly through its alumni network, website and social media. 

But IIT officials fear that this may eventually undermine the sanctity of the placement process at India's premier engineering institutes. 

Placements at all older IITs are set to kick off on December 1. McKinsey will be hiring graduates from the IIT class of 2016 through interviews conducted at its offices. 

McKinsey partner Sasi Sunkara said the consultancy firm decided to take this route as all IITs begin placements on the same day - December 1. This, he said, limits the firm's visits only to a few campuses, while it wanted partners to meet all the candidates before making an offer.
