West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the new Amazon logistics center Phase I at the Uluberia Logistics Park in Howrah.

The e-commerce company is planning to consolidate its reach in the eastern region of the country and it’s likely to create employment opportunities. 

Sharing her thoughts during the launch, the Chief Minister said, “There will be over 20,000 direct and indirect employments. This is a big thing happening in Bengal. I thank Amazon for coming to the state.” 

According to a report in ET, the Amazon logistics hub or fulfilment centre (FC) has started its operations from Tuesday. The CM said that another e-commerce giant Flipkart has already begun functioning from March and invested Rs 2,000 crore for setting up its logistics hub in Uluberia.

“These hubs will create direct employment for 20,050 youths in the state and many more indirect job opportunities and I am hopeful that more investments for the logistics sector will come and generate jobs,” she added.

With the onset of the festive season, Amazon.in has expanded of its own delivery network in the east. This FC will now enable quicker deliveries of the ordered products to the nearby cities. “With the launch of this FC, Prime members will be able to enjoy faster delivery. We will continue to invest in its fulfillment network here,” reported the English daily.
