Tech Mahindra to increase headcount in the next 3 quarters
As the Mumbai-based IT company, Tech Mahindra focuses more on ‘demand-based’ hiring, it may hire around 4,000 freshers in the next three quarters.
Manoj Bhat, the Chief Financial Officer at Tech Mahindra revealed in a recent investor call that the company has already hired about 1,800 fresh graduates in the first quarter of the ongoing fiscal.
The CEO and MD of Tech Mahindra, C P Gurnani further added that the trends suggest that hiring is no longer linear to the growth of companies.
He shared, “The focus is more on demand-based hiring instead of creating an inventory.”
In addition to hiring fresh graduates, Tech Mahindra is also concerned about the attrition of key talent and is closely monitoring it.
Manoj Bhat said, “As of now it is still probably under control and we will continue to monitor it closely.”
Tech Mahindra reported attrition at 19 percent (last 12-month basis), while utilization levels were at 81 percent (including trainees).
As the IT service major is looking to hire more freshers, it is also looking at different kinds of training and very specific online-based training, so that the trainees can become billable very quick.
With this approach, the company aims to ‘deliver more’ with ‘less number of people’.
The total headcount of Tech Mahindra was around 1,13,552 people at the end of June 2018 quarter with an addition of 745 people over the preceding quarter.
While the number of employees in software was 72,462, in BPO the headcount was about 34,700 people. On the other hand, in sales and support function the number of employees was relatively less with 6,390 people at the end of June 2018 quarter.
